Retailers Win With Campaign Manager That Marries Products and Promotions With Personalization

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 15, 2001--

Net Perceptions Launches Personalization Manager As Part of New

Retail Revelations(TM) Product Suite

National Retail Federation--Conceive and execute a new marketing campaign in a few minutes and have results in hours or days vs. weeks? Create targeted programs for individuals, segments or even entire customer databases from your desktop without waiting days for technical support? Instantly design promotions around retail product lines? The latest offering from software developer Net Perceptions allows retailers to do all these things.

Net Perceptions(R) (Nasdaq: NETP), an innovator in the development of merchandising and marketing software, officially unveiled today the "Personalization Manager," Version 6 of its Net Perceptions for E-commerce offering, at the National Retail Federation Annual Convention and Expo in New York City. Personalization Manager is a campaign manager specifically designed to let retailers easily create and evaluate their online Web campaigns. Personalization Manager marries Net Perceptions' award-winning real-time personalization technology seamlessly to the rule-building capabilities needed to deliver individually tailored online shopping experiences for each consumer, while ensuring that the retailer is meeting key merchandising objectives such as selling higher margin products and clearing overstocks.

"The much-touted 360-degree view of the customer simply isn't enough," said Steven Snyder, Net Perceptions president and CEO. "Retailers have to link their understanding of the customer with an equally deep insight of their products and promotional options to determine the most profitable action to take. Our Personalization Manager represents the first time these elements have all been brought together into a single solution."

Initial response from retailers has been strong. "We're impressed with the depth of functionality we've seen in Net Perceptions' new Personalization Manager," said Gary Beberman, director of Technical Research, Macys.com. "The integration of dynamic product and promotion recommendations makes it a compelling product for retailers to review."

International online retailer Bertlesmann collaborated with Net Perceptions in developing this latest version of its e-commerce product. "Personalization Manager is what BOL was looking for when we chose Net Perceptions," said Andrew Dorward, director of Personalization, Bertelsmann Online. "We needed something to allow us to build campaigns around customer segments and to create personalized offers for each customer on our site. Personalization Manager gives us that kind of flexibility and targeting sophistication."

Personalization Manager allows marketers to manage online customer acquisition, development and retention. It also addresses key merchandising challenges such as the need to focus on the promotion of new products, higher margin items or overstocks. All these features are delivered in an easy-to-use graphical user interface (GUI) that makes retail campaign planning and implementation easy.

Personalization Manager has several distinctive features that set it apart from other campaign managers currently on the market. It combines an understanding of customer segments and product groups so that retailers can develop promotions that target specific levels of either their customer or product hierarchies. In addition, the software lets retailers easily use their existing customer segmentation models, or just as quickly, leverage new ones based on new analytic inputs. Finally, it features the latest version of the world's most widely deployed one-to-one recommendation technology.

"We're excited about the response we've received on this product," said Snyder. "Net Perceptions stands apart from other software solution providers because of its focus on the retail industry. We created this product knowing that retailers need a solution that speaks their language, allows them to quickly plan and deploy campaigns, and delivers measurable return on their marketing efforts."
