Net Perceptions (ticker: NETP, exchange: NASDAQ) News Release - Nov-15-1999
Four E-Business Leaders Announce Adaptive Marketing Solution to Help Businesses Reach the Next Generation of Internet Commerce

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM, net.Genesis, DoubleClick and Net Perceptions announced today they will work together to offer an adaptive Internet marketing solution to help customers make more informed decisions about online marketing campaigns, sales strategies and Web content.

The solution provides marketing executives with the ability to sense the needs of their online customers based upon their previous purchasing behavior, patterns of navigation through a site, and affinity for certain related products or services. Executives can then respond by personalizing their offerings and Web presence to individual customer needs. This closed-loop approach, called adaptive Internet marketing, can result in higher sales volumes and increased customer loyalty.

The companies also announced that iGo Corporation ( http://www.igo.com ), a leading provider of products, services and innovative solutions that gives freedom and flexibility to people on the go, has signed a letter of intent to be the first customer.

"We at iGo.com are excited to be the charter user for this new end-to-end e-commerce customer solution. The personalization capabilities along with the robust tracking and reporting tools will allow us to further increase the value proposition to our online customers," said Ken Stockman, vice president and general manager of e-commerce at iGo.com. "With the combined industry knowledge of these four e-business leaders, we will have the necessary technology in place to offer unique, personalized content and products for busy mobile professionals. This relationship will help continue to drive our e-commerce initiatives and provide value-added solutions for people on the go."

Components of the solution include industry-leading technology for e-commerce, customer intelligence, advertising and marketing management, and real time personalization:

IBM Net.Commerce provides a world class solution for creating and managing high-performance, high-scalability e-commerce sites. It offers superior merchandising and content management capabilities, as well as advanced tools for creating dynamic and intelligent catalogs and storefronts.

net.Analysis from net.Genesis is one of the industry's leading Web analysis software solutions. It provides a platform for online analysis and measurement that correlates information about Web visitor behavior with other enterprise business data to improve strategic analytical decision making about marketing, selling and supporting products online.

Doubleclick AdServer solutions automate the process of online marketing management, from advanced inventory management, to the sophisticated targeting and delivery of ads and promotional marketing offers, to the generation of performance reports. AdServer's open API allows for integration with, and optimization of, existing applications, databases and overall business operations.

Net Perceptions for E-commerce enables the process of suggestive selling based on the unique wants, needs and tastes of each customer. It allows general merchandise companies to leverage the same suggestive selling personalization tools that literally redefined book and music retailing on the Web. It helps increase online sales, enhance profitability and build long-term customer loyalty.

IBM said its global services unit would leverage its e-business consulting and systems integration skills to deliver the adaptive Internet marketing solution to customers. The solution is a key part of a major new initiative being announced in New York City today to help customers align their marketing and business strategy with information technology from up-front Web design to back end systems integration.

"This adaptive Internet marketing solution will help businesses advance to the next generation of Internet commerce," said Karl Salnoske, vice president, Electronic Commerce, IBM Global Services. "The combined solution and efforts from IBM, net.Genesis, Net Perceptions, and DoubleClick will help ensure our most valuable customers are successful with their e-business initiatives."

Larry Bohn, president and CEO of net.Genesis, said, "Companies are rushing to the Web to take advantage of the new Internet economy and they need the most sophisticated, powerful and scalable solution that will keep them ahead of their competition. We believe this is an unbeatable solution that will help them constantly identify, attract and retain the best customers."

"This powerful combination of integrated marketing and e-commerce solutions brings businesses a reliable new way to maximize their online initiatives," said Kevin O'Conner, CEO of DoubleClick. "We are proud to be a part of this preeminent new offering helping businesses compete and win in the new economy."

"Combining complex business solutions into easy-to-buy and implement packages is an IBM hallmark," said Steven Snyder, president and CEO of Net Perceptions. "IBM has put incredible fire power behind this adaptive Internet marketing solution. The synergy of one-to-one real-time personalization, marketing management, intelligence and e-commerce is formidable. We're pleased to play a role as IBM takes integrated Internet marketing to its next level."
